Granville Bruce (1903-1989) Panther Hall Gouache on paper 14 x 31in. Signed lower right: Granville Bruce Provenance: Estate of Corky and Bill Kuykendall (owners of Panther Hall), Byron Rose (grandson of Kuykendall's)
Panther Hall was originally built as a professional bowling alley for the TV broadcast of national bowling tournaments. However interest in national bowling tournaments waned and the building sat vacant for almost a year before the Kuykendall brothers decided to make it into the largest country western music hall in the nation. Every Saturday night hundreds of people gathered to watch the national television show being taped, and attend the big dance at 9:00 p.m.
Panther Hall was known around the world. Practically every famous country and western performer graced the stage of Panther Hall.
Panther Hall was sold at auction in the 1970's and was subsequently demolished. This painting hung in the offices of Panther Hall and was removed by the grandson of the Kuykendall's. Notice the Meadowbrook Bowling Lanes building on the right.
